A few of our favorite hikes.
Note, some of these are very strenuous. Proceed as your abilities and health situation allow.

The Beehive Trail
The Beehive trail in Acadia NP ascends 450ft along Beehive mountain, 1.4 miles round trip. This trail requires you to traverse an uneven trail and navigate some iron rungs. The views are beautiful, including my favorite, looking back down on Sand Beach. There are steep drop offs without railings. This can be a dangerous trail, don’t attempt if you have a fear of heights or in bad weather.

South Rim Trial
The South Rim Trail down the Grand Canyon is a great way to get a different perspective of this natural wonder. Park rangers roam the start to check you have enough water and let you know what you’re getting into. There are two rest areas with bathrooms along the trail. The length you want to hike is up to you, but remember, for every step on the way down, is a step up on the way back.
-
Jordan Pond Trail
This is an easy stroll in Acadia NP, when your only goal is a pleasant walk. As the name suggests, this hike circles Jordan Pond. There is a well established hard packed path on one side of the pond and boardwalk of heavy timber on the other, to help you navigate some of the wetter terrain. Walk, breath the fresh air, and enjoy the surroundings.

Blue Mesa Trail
The Blue Mesa Trail is a 1 mile loop in Petrified Forest National Park, sections are paved, some are gravel. Most people review the trail as fairly easy, though I remember a short steep section. The landscape could be on another planet and contains petrified wood of blue, purple, and yellow.

Petrified Forest Hike - Teddy Roosevelt Park
This hike is located in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. From the parking area the trail leads you onto a wild prairie, when the wind blows the grass looks as if you are walking through ocean waves. The hike brings you to a concentration of petrified wood. The length depends on which forks in the trail you choose.
-
Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail
This trail is also in Acadia National Park, and is a gradual climb up the south side of Cadillac Mountain to the Summit Road. The views are spectacular, especially looking back down over Bar Harbor. This trail is 3.5 miles, each way, so leave yourself plenty of time if you are hiking up and coming back the same way.

Arthur's Seat - Scotland
Arthur’s Seat is an ancient extinct volcano in Holyrood Park in the city of Edinburgh. The trail to the top raises to an elevation of 823 ft. It’s a steady climb, a bit steeper as you get to the top. I’d rate it a moderate hike, no walk in the park (pun intended), put if you walk/hike regularly, don’t be afraid to make the attempt. The panoramic views of Edinburgh at the top are worth the climb.
